When purchasing a new air conditioner for your home, you should know that today’s best air conditioners use 30%-50% less energy than those units used in the early 1990s. Even if your air conditioner is only 10 years old, you may be able to save up to 40% of your cooling energy costs by replacing it with a newer and more efficient model.

Our comfort specialists can perform a load calculation to ensure the system you buy is properly sized to maximize efficiency and optimize your comfort level.

An air conditioner’s efficiency, performance, durability, and initial cost depend on matching its size to the following factors:

1. The size of your home and the number of windows it has
2. The amount of shade on your home’s windows, walls, and roof
3. How much insulation is in the ceilings and walls of your home
4. The amount of air that leaks into your home from outside
5. The amount of heat the appliances and occupants in your home generate

Know that a larger air conditioner will not provide the best cooling. Buying an oversized air conditioner will only serve the following consequences: It costs more to buy a larger air conditioner. The larger-than-necessary air conditioner will cycle on and off more frequently, which will reduce its efficiency. Frequent cycling makes indoor temperatures fluctuate and results in a less than comfortable environment. Frequent cycling also reduces moisture removal. This cycling wears out the electrical parts and compressor more rapidly. A larger air conditioner will use more electricity, which cost you more money.trane_ac

Preventative maintenance for your air conditioner is important. Inspecting the system to check for problems before they grow into major air conditioner malfunctions can save hundreds of dollars and periodic preventative maintenance for your air conditioner is a great way to accomplish that. Semi-annual preventative maintenance, or annual preventative maintenance, for your air conditioner by Quigley Heating & Air can go a long way in ensuring the effective operation of your air conditioner.
Quigley Heating & Air’s Q Club Preventative Maintenance Program will keep your air conditioner running at its peak performance and efficiency.

Inadequate preventative maintenance for your air conditioner is one of the chief causes of air conditioner malfunctions, poor performance and inefficiency. Like an automobile needs inexpensive periodic preventative maintenance to keep it running and to avoid costly repairs, your air conditioner requires periodic preventative maintenance. Neglecting preventative maintenance for your air conditioner may lead to a steady decline in the air conditioner’s performance as well as increased energy consumption and costs.  It is also important to point out that maintenance is required to keep your equipments warranties in good standing.

What is a SEER Rating?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating, which is a number that is determined by the manufacturer and required by the U.S. government. The SEER tells consumers how energy efficient a home heating and cooling unit is. The more heating and cooling a system puts out for each unit of energy it consumes, the higher rating it will receive.  The higher the SEER rating of your system, the less energy it will consume. This translates to lower utility bills and less environmental impact.

Enjoy the benefits of clean air ducts. Your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system (HVAC) acts as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to adversely affect your health. Contaminants such as mold, fungi, bacteria, and very small particles of dust can collect in your HVAC. The removal of such contaminants is an important step to improve your indoor air quality.

Research by the U.S. EPA has demonstrated that duct and system cleaning can cause your system to run more efficiently by removing debris from sensitive mechanical components. Clean, efficient systems are less likely to break down, have a longer life span, and generally operate more effectively than dirty systems.

According

shutterstock_106953338To clean your air ducts and ventilation systems, Quigley executes the Source Removal method of cleaning. Our qualified technicians place your system under negative pressure through the use of a specialized, powerful vacuum. While the vacuum draws air through the system, devices are inserted into the ducts to dislodge any debris that might be stuck on interior surfaces. The debri can then travel down the ducts to the vacuum, which removes it from the home
