The filter you use can greatly impact the efficiency and lifespan of your unit. To keep your HVAC happy and healthy consider the following:
- MERV- All filters have a different MERV rating. This essentially measures the filtration effectiveness according to particle size. This means that a high MERV rate will catch fine particles. The higher the MERV the better.
- Filter Replacement- Replacing your filter should be done on a regular basis. The frequency of replacement will largely depend on the MERV rating of your filter. For a rating of 1-4, replace around every 2 or 3 months. For a rating of 5-8, replace every 1-2 months. For a rating of 8+, replace every month. Remember these are just estimates and ideal replacement times can depend on many factors. For a replacement service you can rely on, look at our Q-Club. - Set Thermostats to AUTO- When your thermostat fan is left on it continuously pulls warm air into your AC. This must then pass through your filter, with whatever particles it brings along. This can easily shorten the lifespan of your filter.
