In the event of floods, heavy rain, or other extreme weather, your HVAC may be left in standing water. To avoid serious damages or even dangerous situations you should be ready to act. We recommend the following steps be followed with caution.
- Turn off all power to your HVAC unit. If you feel you cannot do this safely, please wait for a professional’s help.
- Try to remove the surrounding water and debris as well as possible. Then allow time for your unit to dry.
- Now you should wait for an expert to help you assess the damage. Some damages may be obvious. Other compromised components like electrical parts may not be so obvious.
- It may be tempting to prevent damages by covering your unit with a tarp. However this should be avoided at all costs.
Although this may prevent water from entering your unit, it will also keep air from flowing in and out. This may end up doing more harm than good.
