Ten days before Christmas, the farthest thing from your mind is your air conditioner. But you may want to take a moment and consider the status of your AC system while you aren’t needing it. As we have mentioned in the past, the cooler months are the best time to have your air conditioner inspected, repaired, or replaced since technicians tend to be less busy this time of year. You may have been holding off on replacing your AC unit due to the cost, but did you know that an older unit may be costing you more due to its inefficiency?
Air conditioning units made today are amazingly energy efficient and are required to wear a label stating how efficient they are. No doubt you have seen the bright yellow stickers with numbers on them on all modern appliances. This number is called a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating and it tells you the amount of electricity required to remove heat from inside your house. The higher the SEER rating is, the more energy-efficient the air conditioner is. Minimum ratings start at 13 and 14 SEER, while the highest is 25 for specific models.
While initially the cost of a more energy efficient air conditioner will be significant, there are incentives such as rebates through the manufacture or power company to help offset that cost. Repairs will be nonexistent and with a more energy efficient unit, you will likely see your energy bill drop. So, while Christmas might not seem like the ideal time to be talking about air conditioning, it just might be the perfect time. Call Quigley to schedule a technician to come out and give you an honest evaluation of your air conditioner and answer any questions you might have.
