Unusual noises, warm air, and poor airflow can all be warning signs of an air conditioner in need of repairs. Symptoms for other issues may not be so obvious. The symptoms of short cycling can be easy to miss, but shouldn’t be disregarded.

Short cycling is when your unit is turning off and on more than it should. This is because it becomes stuck in the start-up cycle. This means it will never reach its complete cooling cycle and the compressor works much harder than needed. This can lead to higher energy costs, and more problems if left unfixed.

How do you avoid a short cycling AC unit? The answer is simple, maintenance! Clogged air filters are not only a cause, but also a symptom. Inaccurate thermostats can also be a root of problems. If you suspect your thermostat isn’t calibrated correctly, then you should call for repairs. Lastly, an AC unit that is the wrong size, may cause short cycling. Filter replacement, thermostat calibration, and AC installation are all services we offer. If you notice any other symptoms of short cycling, give us a call and we’d be happy to help!
